After two years working abroad, AWS Legal Associate Kate Andrew returned home, eager to utilise her skills in the flourishing Wakatipu basin.

“Queenstown is such a progressive and exciting environment with a diverse range of legal requirements,” she says.

“It’s great to be able to apply such an array of skills on a daily basis.”

Kate graduated from Otago University in 2000 with a double degree in law and science.

She first worked as an advisor with a trust company in Nelson, before joining AWS Legal’s head office in Invercargill, in 2001. There she focused on trust and conveyancing work, before embarking on her OE, honing her skills in the legal department of a council in London.

"The fact you were in a different country and learning new things was great and provided good experience,” Kate says.

Returning to New Zealand in 2004, she joined AWS Legal’s Queenstown office where she applies her knowledge to a variety of legal tasks, including asset protection, estate planning, conveyancing and commercial law.

“It’s certainly a job where you’re constantly learning new things and I love the research aspect of it as well,” Kate says.

Efficiency is one of Kate’s many attributes and she pays close attention to detail.

“It’s a matter of getting the job done as quickly as you can and as well as you can,” she says.

A keen traveller, Kate enjoys Queenstown’s dynamic and exciting environment, which alsoprovides the perfect base for tramping and camping trips.
