When Kay Edwards joined AWS Legal in Queenstown, she brought 42 years’ experience in law with her. Kay, a legal executive who has lived and worked in Queenstown since the early 1980s, started with the firm in 2004. “AWS Legal is a dynamic firm with excellent resources to call on if you need them,” she says. The majority of her work involves conveyancing, with a diverse mix of international and local clients. Owning a home remains the ultimate Kiwi dream for many people, and Kay enjoys helping it come to fruition. “Everyone wants their little quarter acre of paradise,” she says. While working as a secretary for a prominent Dunedin lawyer, Kay’s enthusiasm for the profession grew. She retrained as a legal executive and hasn’t looked back. “I evolved into the role of legal executive – and I love it,” she says. “It’s very people-orientated. I enjoy helping people to achieve their goals.” Kay has seen first-hand the Wakatipu basin’s rapid growth during the past three decades. “When I first arrived in the town, two or three property transactions a month was doing well,” she says. “Now it’s not uncommon for that to be a day’s work.” Away from the office, Kay is involved, both nationally and locally, with the Altrusa club, which raises funds to support the local community, and pursues her love of the great outdoors with the Wakatipu Tramping and Mountaineering Club. A committee member of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives’ Otago branch, Kay is also Chairwoman of the Otago Polytechnic Cromwell Campus External Advisory Committee. |
