Damien Pine set an energetic precedent when he graduated from Otago University in 2000.

Instead of following the more traditional track of combining a law and commerce degree, he melded his legal studies with an honours degree in physical education.

“I was the first person at varsity to go through with a law-PE double – since then quite a few have graduated with the combination,” he says.

Damien joined AWS Legal after graduation and quickly achieved Partner status four years later, a testament to his skills and commitment to succeed.

His legal know-how is put to good use in the flourishing resort of Te Anau, where he fronts the firm’s branch office two days a week.

Damien specialises in all aspects of commercial law, including conveyancing and company structures, and is also experienced in rural law, family trusts and wills.

The expanding and dynamic nature of Te Anau has resulted in a specialist interest in property development.

“As Te Anau has changed dramatically, so has the work we do,” Damien says.

“It’s a growth area and having a presence there reflects our commitment to the town and its future success.”

In his work, Damien enjoys building “down-to-earth” relationships with his clients, and the satisfaction of seeing them succeed.

“I’d like to think that I’m not your stereotypical lawyer,” he says.

“I can explain things in a way that clients can understand, without all the legal jargon.”
