Doreen Evans, Partner at our Cromwell office spearheads joint Rotary and Lions Clubs’ community fundraising project
When Rotarian, Doreen Evans, undertook to organise a fundraising project with the idea to build a home to sell at auction with the sale proceeds being donated to St John, she had no guarantee of strong community support. But she trusted her instincts. “We have a strong and positive community here in Cromwell. Building a home does not come free, of course, but we have a great pool of people who are generous with their time, skills and products. These people are prepared to pool their skills for a community project to raise funds for St John.”
The vision is to create a beautiful home designed and built by the community. The home, which has already been designed by Cromwell architect, Jessie Sutherland, will be constructed next year and sold at auction with profits being donated to the St John Central Otago Station Rebuild.
The 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home will be built on Lot 47 Prospector’s Park. The home design shows a stunning, modern, open-plan build with a cosy feel and looks set to raise desperately needed funds for St John.
Doreen Evans, who is the Partner managing our Cromwell office believes teaming up with tradies and businesses in Cromwell offers the perfect ingredient for a magnificent community prospect. Said AWS Legal’s Doreen Evans, “It’s rewarding to help bring the community together. Indeed collaborating with talented individuals and businesses to achieve an exceptional outcome encapsulates our core values. We’re proud to support this project and be part of the community.”
AWS Legal CEO Grant Yorkstone is pleased the firm is supporting this initiative: “It’s great to see Doreen driving this initiative forward and engaging with local trades and businesses for the benefit of the Cromwell community. This is a project which we are proud to support.”
The success of the project is built on an ethos of teamwork and careful management. Doreen Evans applies the same skillset to this initiative as she does in the workplace, drawing on the best resources and selecting the right people for the job. Said Evans, “It’s all about co-ordinating the specialists and being mindful of costs. It’s much the same at work. We seek to delegate each job to competent individuals with the relevant skillset and whose charge-out rate is commensurate with the task. This could be a Law Clerk, a Senior Solicitor or an experienced Partner.”
If you wish to get involved with the project, please contact Doreen on 445 4111 or 027 277 0972 or email@example.com.
